If you’ve ever wondered what it feels like to run with a real Yukon sled dog team, this is your day. Skagway’s wooden boardwalks and Gold Rush tales fade behind you as you follow the Klondike Highway through the mountains toward a remote sled dog camp in the Yukon. The ancestors of these legendary dogs once ran these same trails — not in a quest for gold, nor even the medals their owners might covet, but simply for the love of running.

At camp, the energy jumps the moment the bus stops — dogs barking, lines snapping tight, tails spinning as they lean into their harnesses. You’ll climb into a 6-passenger UTV that the team pulls along winding forest trails and past a mountain lake, the engine there to help on hills so the dogs get a real workout without being overstrained. It’s the way they actually train in summer — and an unforgettable ride for you.

On the way back toward the ship, at each photo stop, you can now picture dog teams threading this same route in winter darkness, yelping and straining with delight.

Good to know

Guests traveling together who don’t want the cart ride can book the Pet the Puppies tour at the same departure time and ride on the same bus.

Ride at your own risk. The dog cart ride isn’t recommended for people with back problems, heart conditions, who are pregnant, or who have other medical conditions that may be affected. The cart travels over rough terrain with sudden starts, stops, and swerves. Hang on with both hands. Skagway Tours does not operate the musher’s camp; all liability for the ride is with camp management.

No passport, no tour, no kidding. Every Skagway Tours route crosses into Canada. Arriving without your passport means riding straight back to the ship, and missed tours aren’t refundable.
